A heritage with a forward view.

The Atlas tradition is IAMBI’s historical guiding idea. Its starting point is William Playfair’s The Commercial and Political Atlas of 1786. Organizing knowledge and making relationships visible: IAMBI revives this idea for the contemporary comparison of organizations in aesthetic medicine.

1786 · The art of comparison

With The Commercial and Political Atlas, William Playfair gave numbers a new expressive power in 1786. Graphic presentation revealed relationships that could remain hidden in long tables. This Atlas tradition shapes IAMBI’s central idea: bringing knowledge together to create a clear view of organizations, systems and their roles.

An international perspective

At IAMBI, the Atlas tradition connects with an international research perspective. International Comparability Studies explores shared terminology and standards across borders. Its historical research subjects include the Statistical Congress held in Brussels in 1853.

The tradition today

The IAMBI Benchmark Atlas brings these ideas together in a contemporary research format. Organization profiles, peer groups and studies explore the international ecosystem of aesthetic medicine. The Atlas tradition becomes a living program: research that brings order, comparison that offers perspective and knowledge that takes us forward.
